Crocodile failed to protect a loved one in the New World
Crocodile’s line to Jinbe about protecting Luffy seemed odd to me at first, but it seems the “wounds” Daz is referring to is the loss of Ace and not physical injuries. Crocodile’s journey in the New World probably ended when he failed to protect someone. Crocodile lost a loved one in the New World. Kind of like Moria, he lost his will to continue and basically gave up on himself. Moria resorted to zombies, while Crocodile’s plan B was Pluton.
