Big Mom’s behavior in Chapter 1011 makes totally sense!

Then go to the infamous “Soul Wheel” she uses for both Jinbe and Zepo; once again, while pretty much rigged, it’s still another showcase of “give and take”. You want to leave? Here’s the price. You attacked my country and wounded one of my men? Here’s the price.

So what happened in Chapter 1011 is a culmination of both of these traits that are pretty defining of Big Mom’s character; the fact that she has a soft spot for small children – given her past – and the fact that she respects loyalty and offerings.

Still, we don’t forget every single one of these concepts is fundamentally warped and altered in a way that, at the end, makes her sound hypocritical, like any child is when it comes to the things they want. Because when it comes to deals, if she really wants something, she’ll kill you to have it. Judge knows something about this.

Now, let’s review her behavior under her warped perspective; she is nice to Otama, sure, but she is so because she has helped her during her Amnesia times and gave her food as well. She didn’t care much about Momonosuke while he was being executed, for example; she is nice to Okobore Town, but that’s because, in her mind, that was practically “Big Mom territory” after their food offerings, so for her Kaido’s men literally went and destroyed one of her loyal vassal territories.
It’s the usual thing; it’s not that she’s angry because kind people got executed; she got angry because people that were kind TO HER were executed. It’s not that Otama is a small child and cute, so she gets all the compliments; it’s that Otama is small and cute and was kind and cute and friendly TOWARDS HER .

Big Mom is selfish. She HAS a code of honor, but it all revolves around herself.
Which means we can translate Chapter 1011 in Big Mom is hunting for Kid, stumbles upon the hateful Straw Hats, then sees Otama, a very cute kid who was really friendly to her and also very kind and focuses all her attention on her. The kid however suddenly tells her that her territory of Okobore Town was destroyed by Kaido’s men. Right after that, one of Kaido’s men is ordering Big Mom around and telling her to capture Otama. Big Mom is outraged and punches this man into the floor below.
All the while completely forgetting about the Straw Hats.

This doesn’t mean that “Tama tamed Big Mom” nor that “Big Mom is an ally”.

At the end of the day, this was a good way – at least for now – to pay off the Amnesia plotline without actually going back to an Amnesiac state, and hopefully stops us from fearing Big Mom switching back to Olin whenever she gets hit in the head or touches the water, as that plotline has already been brought back by Oda now.
